I was interested in exploring a couple of ideas in this first portrait.
First, I'm participating in Green Week. You can see other photos in this endeavor over on Flickr. Therefore, I wanted to incorporate green into this photo.
But mainly this photo explores how being a mother has crept into the very center of my being. Even when I'm on my own, my kids are present in some fashion, large or small. Those are my daughter's barrettes, which from time to time find their way into my hair when I find them lying around the house. The photo is taken in my 5-year-old son's room. I still spend most nights co-sleeping with him. At night, I'm a floater, not really having my "own" bed. I really value co-sleeping, though. I know it will come to an end one of these days, so I simply indulge in the closeness this brings to our lives.
