My friend asked me to make a soft, stuffed elephant for her daughter. I am going to make a couple of versions for her to choose from. This first one came out with a very sweet, shy, but curious personality. Check out those Dumbo ears! I used some silk velvet that I bought recently in NYC's fashion district. Let me tell you, this fabric is not easy to work with. It is so slippery. I had to pin the pieces very carefully before sewing. But, it is very soft to the touch and I can imagine a child would like that.
The pattern is my modification of the "Elodie the Elephant" pattern in the newly released "One-Yard Wonders." The book was published by our local publishing house, Storey Publishing. They have many other great craft books, like several by the Yarn Harlet Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and Lexie Barnes's "Sew What! Bags." "One Yard Wonders" has 101 sewing projects that use just one yard of fabric.

It seems I have been missing in action here for a few days. Two reasons why:
1. My etsy shop, Lovely World Handmade, is now up and running. I have only put a few things in for now, but will be adding more. Please visit and tell me what you think.
2. Hanukah started last Friday and has consumed much of my time. I'm still finishing a few gifts for the kids. Thank goodness the holiday gives me an eight day window in which to prepare!
